Baking for autumn

As summer’s warmth gives way to the crisp cool of autumn, we thought we’d share what our Good Bitches are baking this season.

While ingredients like chocolate, caramel and vanilla are seldom out of circulation (fingers crossed), quintessentially autumn produce is starting to appear on supermarket shelves and (for those with a green thumb) ripening in home gardens. ’Tis the season for apples, blueberries, feijoas, melon, nectarines, passionfruit, peaches, pears, persimmons and plums, to name a few.

Here’s a round-up of some of the scrumptious seasonal baking we’ve seen so far this autumn.

Left to right, top to bottom:

GBB Wellington – Julia’s Feijoa and cream sponge cake

GBB Nelson – Abby’s cinnamon peach bread (blood peaches from garden) and anzac biscuits

GBB Hamilton – Chrissie’s passionfruit cake (passionfruit from garden)

GBB North Auckland - Jennifer’s plum and raspberry slice

GBB Queenstown & Central Otago – Hinano’s almond and nectarine loaves

GBB Invercargill – Jackie’s double chocolate zucchini muffins and lolly cake

GBB Whanganui – Emma’s lemon & blueberry muffins and apricot fudge slice

GBB Dunedin – Sharon’s passionfruit melting moments and gingerbread

GBB Ōtautahi Christchurch – Stephanie’s carrot cake

GBB Wellington – Belinda’s apple coffee cake
