“For many of WIT’s clients, receiving the baking may be the only thing they get to eat on a Monday.” Tracey Benson, Residential Services Manager
WIT – What Ever It Takes Trust – is a registered charity in Hawke’s Bay focused on the recovery of people experiencing mental health and addiction difficulties, supporting them to live within the community. As well as outreach services and support for people experiencing homelessness, WIT has 22 residential beds.
Tracey Benson has been at WIT for nearly eight years now and been the residential manager for two years. She can’t speak highly enough of GBB’s baking. Every Monday, WIT receives boxes of GBB home baking that are shared across their services. “I think the baking is just wonderful and so kind. For many of WIT’s clients, receiving the baking may be the only thing they get to eat on a Monday,” says Tracey.
Tracey shares, “One of WIT’s residents spent many years in a large psychiatric institution, and sadly she’s lost touch with the real world. But once, while eating a slice of banana cake provided by GBB, she had a rare, sparkling moment; she became lucid and was able to remember her childhood. She told me that it was a cake just like her sister used to make when they were young.”
The power of the kindness behind GBB’s baking sparked this connection, and brought a tear to Tracey’s eye.
