Baking to the budget

With the cost of living continuing to rise, home baking can be an expensive venture. Our Good Bitches regularly post their 'stealth mode shopping tricks' on our community social media forums, advising where to find common baking ingredients such as butter and eggs at the best value prices. Other ‘tricks’ for cost saving include: buying and freezing butter when at a reduced price; buying fruit in season or frozen; supplementing with home garden produce; and substituting costly ingredients (eg oil or margarine for dairy, banana or aquafaba for eggs).

Here at Good Bitches Baking, we don’t want cost to be a barrier to being kind, and so we created our Cup of Sugar fund to help Good Bitches be able to help others. If you’re a Good Bitch finding your budget too stretched to purchase baking ingredients or you would like to be a Good Bitch but need some help, the Cup of Sugar fund is here for you. Named after the old-fashioned practice of borrowing a cup of sugar from your neighbour, it embodies the concept of giving something to someone without the expectation of receiving something in return.

To access a Cup of Sugar, just fill out the form here and request a voucher, which will be sent out, no questions asked. The monetary amount for this voucher is calculated by using the average cost of ingredients (ie butter, sugar, flour and eggs) needed to make a batch of baking.

You're also very welcome to make a donation to this fund - just click the donate button in the page footer below.

“Money is but one venue for generosity. Kindness is an even more valuable currency”.
