It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

It’s that time of year again! The pōhutukawa trees are in bloom, Mariah Carey and Michael Bublé are trending on the radio, and the lights are going up. At Good Bitches Baking, we love the month of December as, not only do we get to spread a little sweetness and joy, we also have license to make our baking FESTIVE.

Below are just some of the fabulous festive bakes we’ve seen from our Good Bitches so far this season, with MANY more to come.

Sugar cookies are a popular bake among our Good Bitches at this time of year as they’re such a versatile treat, able to be shaped, iced and decorated in whatever manner the baker wishes. There’s also a wonderful history to the humble cookie and Christmas. The practice of leaving cookies out for Santa began sometime during the Great Depression of the 1930s. It was born from the desire to instill the spirit of giving and generosity within children, even when there may have been little to spare.

We can see evidence of this legacy today in Aotearoa, with charities such as Cookie Time Charitable Trust using cookies as a symbol of the spirit of giving.

Chantal Organics and Auckland’s Bread & Butter Bakery have collaborated for a third consecutive year to spread some festive cheer this December with their Christmas Charity Cookies, which are available for purchase from local food stores around the country. For every pack purchased, $5 is donated to charities which support people who need it, including Auckland City Mission, Wellington City Mission and Nourished for Nil.

If you feel like indulging in a little sweetness for a good cause this month, Christmas Charity Cookies are available for purchase at:

  • Chantal Shop, Napier
  • Commonsense Organics, Wellington
  • Bread & Butter Bakery, Auckland
  • Ecostore, Auckland
  • Farro, Auckland

From all of us at Good Bitches Baking, we wish you a Meri Kirihimete and leave you with this quote from an unknown author:
